GJIROKASTRA

Gjirokastra Region lies in southeast of Albania. The geographical position of Gjirokastra Region can be called the gate way of Albania to Europe, through three custom points (Kakavie, Three Bridges, Sopik), favours a lot the movements of tourists in all parts of our region, by exploiting the good infractuture of the neighbour country. Only 60 km divide Girokastra from Ionannina and 150 km from the part of Igumenica.

The region is tranversed by Vjosa river, Drino river and lot of gorges and smsller rivers with high tourism values. From the relief point of view it is considered a hilly and mountainous area, whereas from the climacteric zone with lots of rains during winter and with droughts during summer. Total surface of region is 2880 km2 and it has 180 thousand inhabitants. Gjirokastra region has 6 municipalities (Gjirokastra, Libohova, Permet, Kelcyre, Tepelene, Memaliaj) and 26 communes with 258 villages. The region of Gjirokastra offers ideal resources and fulfills all the criteria for the development of the specific types of nowdays tourism like:

1) Cultural tourism in Gjirokastra city with unrepeatable medieval and archetonical construction, ancient castles, inherited history and culture. Tourists do have what to visit in Tepelena, Libohova etc.

2) Green tourism with its sub-tipes like: alpine tourism, sports river tourism, exploration tourism etc. This type of  tourism is stimulated by existence of the natural monuments like: The landscape of Cold water in Tepelena, artificial lake of Viroi, the field of Cajupi, National Natural Park of Hotova and Sotir, the thermal  waters in Benje etc.
3) Eco-tourism (family tourism)
